The outgoing Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mr. Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja and Supreme Court of Pakistan announced its judgment on the petitions pending for adjudication since the year 2003 seeking the enforcement of Urdu as official language in Pakistan.
The Communist Party of Pakistan (CPP) and its Chairman Engineer Jameel Ahmad Malik hailed the remarkable judgment of SC and categorically said that this case was taken up by the outgoing CJP Mr. Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, otherwise, this case was laying in cold storage since 2003. This judgment would certainly help the common men and downtrodden masses to compete with the elite and bourgeoisie in education and in other day to day matters of life.
The three-member bench of the apex court ordered the federal government to immediately introduce Urdu as country’s official language under Article 251 of the Constitution of Pakistan, 1973.
In its ruling, the bench headed by Mr. Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja and comprising Mr. Justice Dost Muhammad Khan and Mr. Justice Qazi Faez Isa, gave a nine-point directive for implementation of Urdu in Pakistan.
The court had reserved verdict on August 26. The petitions in this case were filed by Advocate Muhammad Kowkab Iqbal and Syed Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi for declaring Urdu as an official language.
