Communist Party of Pakistan (CPP) and its Chairman Engineer Jameel Ahmad Malik is sad to announce that the great Tahira Mazhar Ali Khan, who was the member and a great woman leader of the Communist Party of Pakistan departed last evening and with it the historic chapter of our revolutionary history ended.
She was buried in Lahore today.
She founded the Democratic Women’s Association (WDA) along her colleagues in 60s and she led the largest women demonstration in the history of the country.
She was charismatic and full of unthinkable energy.. Moving most of the time.
Being a member of the Communist Party of Pakistan, she was the first woman prisoner, who was arrested along other Comrades and writers in 1948, just after one year of independence.
She was the daughter of Sir Sikander Hayat Khan the Chief Minister of United Punjab.
She was the wife of veteran journalist Mazar Ali Khan, chief editor of Pakistan Times and later The weekly View Point, Lahore.
She was the mother of firebrand student leader, Tariq Ali and leader of the New Left in London. His entry was banned during Bhutto and Zia era.
She was a mother of Journalist Mahir Ali.
She was a friend of the poor of this country and very dear Comrade of her leftist friends and revolutionaries.
Tahira was the icon of the Women struggle in Pakistan and symbol of the women’s rights.
She was in practical and nonstop political activities for 65 long years. She was most fearless and bold and courageous Lady, the loss is of course of great human being but a greater than for them who looked hope in her unending struggle…!
